Now There's Something Ya Don't See Every Day (in 1948)


The really interesting thing about this post card (which dates from the late 40s) is the fact that the mermaid is drawn with realistic breasts, including unambiguous nipples. If you have ever seen the sort of art that went into jokey post cards like this, any toplessness was either patently nipple-less (usually obscured by something) or, when rendered, toned down to the point of being spots that are just a tiny shade different from that used for the rest of the boob. It's easy to imagine tons of these never being mailed or, if they were, not making it to their intended destination.


Pretty damn hot for the time.
