I Keep Running Into This

This is an amazing concept for a "car of the future" for which I have been unable to find any textual material, but it is obviously from the Sixties. The design is wonderful in its detail and the lines are amazing. Totally streamlined in profile, with the hint of something other than wheeled support. What is the apparatus in the hatchback rear? And, surely that is not a hubcap sitting on the gatefold. My guess is that what is intended is a futuristic sound system to entertain the driver's guests.
