Oh Mah God!

Is this for real? Could it be that in the 40s there was some accepted notion of integration? Perhaps there was an enlightened attitude among pin-up artists? Would be nice to think so.

A Lovely Postcard

A genuine "french postcard" notorious in the early days of the last century. This one is particularly nice because of the unusually believable and natural poses of the subjects. It is not hard to imagine this as a real incident behind closed doors. I love the looks on their faces.

Now There's Something Ya Don't See Every Day (in 1948)

The really interesting thing about this post card (which dates from the late 40s) is the fact that the mermaid is drawn with realistic breasts, including unambiguous nipples. If you have ever seen the sort of art that went into jokey post cards like this, any toplessness was either patently nipple-less (usually obscured by something) or, when rendered, toned down to the point of being spots that are just a tiny shade different from that used for the rest of the boob. It's easy to imagine tons of these never being mailed or, if they were, not making it to their intended destination.

Pretty damn hot for the time.
